8th Grade Scrimmages Minimize

8-25  WMS 8th Grade tied Centerville 20-20 in their first scrimmage.  Zach Day scored two touchdowns and Zach McCormick added a touchdown and extra point as the 8th grade came back from a 6-20 deficit in the fourth quarter.  This was a great start to the season as the players never gave up and fought back late in the game.

9-2  WMS 8th Grade lost to Miami Trace 14-20 in their final scrimmage.  Zach McCormick scored two touchdowns and an extra point for the Hurricane.  Brenden Schweitzer added an interception defensively.  The middle school football Hurricane squad faces off with Milford in their first official contest Thursday September 10 at Milford.

Wilmington MS 7th Grade Defeats Nagel Blue 22-12

The Wilmington MS 7th grade FB team defeated Nagel Blue MS (Cincinnati Anderson HS) on Thursday September 2nd by a score of 22-12.  The young Hurricanes were in control of the game with a 22-0 lead when two late scores by Nagel made the score appear closer than the game.  Scoring offensive touchdowns for the Canes were Jaren Cumberland and Cameron Stewart.  They also added an extra point each.

The Wilmington 7th grade shut out Milford on Thursday evening 26-0.  The young Hurricanes controlled the game from start to finish and now stand 2-0 on the year.  Jaron Cumberland led the way on offense scoring all four touchdowns.  Cumberland had 3 rushing and one receiving on a pass from Noah Haines.  Cameron Stewart ran in an extra point attempt.

The Wilmington 7th Grade Football Team defeated Kings 34-6 on Thursday.  After Kings scored on the first play of the game the young Hurricanes dominated every aspect of the game.  Leading the way on offense was Jaron Cumberland with 4 touchdown runs and Dylann Robinson scored the 5th .  Cameron Stewart and Marlyn Frisco each scored extra points.  Briten Kessler recovered 2 fumbles as the defense shut down the Knights offense.  They have outscored their opponents 82-18 and stand 3-0 on the year. The team plays at Glen Este next Thursday beginning at 4:30.

The Wilmington 7th Grade FB team defeated Little Miami 46-0 on Wednesday 9/29.  Once again the young Canes were in control from the start of the game.  Through 5 games they have outscored their opponents 160-24.  Scoring for the Hurricanes this week were:  Jaron Cumberland with 3 touchdowns, 2 rushing and 1 on a punt return, Marlyn Frisco, Noah Zurface, and Andrew Davis had a rushing TD each.  The extra points were scored on runs by Cumberland, Nathan Schmid, Brady McCune, and two passes from Noah Haines to Alex Miller.  The team plays at Nagel Silver (Turpin HS) on Wednesday following the 8th grade game.

The Canes dominated the game from start to finish.  This group of 8th graders completed an undefeated season last year and are continuing their ways.  On the offensive side of the ball Jaevin Cumberland scored 2 TDs and Jerry Johns, John Heywood, and Maykel Medley each scored one.  Cumberland also ran in two extra point plays and completed a pass for another to Dalton Wilmoth.  Andy Fisher ran in the other extra point.

The 8th grade football squad won a physical battle with Milford on Thursday evening.  The Canes were trailing 14-8 at half time and that score held until the 4th quarter.  The Canes then scored twice in the 4th qtr for the win.  They tied the score with a touchdown run by John Heywood following a fumble recovery by Drake Mallard. With the score tied at 14 Maykel Medley intercepted a pass and had a great return which set up the final touchdown by Jerry Johns and the extra point run by John Heywood.  Heywood then sealed the victory with an interception on Milford’s next and final possession of the game.

The Wilmington 8th Grade Football team defeated Kings 38-20 on Thursday evening.  Jerry Johns, playing through a knee injury, had a great game running the ball for the Hurricanes and set up many of the scores.  Maykel Medley scored first for the Canes , while  John Heywood scored the next 4 touchdowns and an extra point.  Jaevin Cumberland ran in 3 extra points and threw a fourth to Heywood. Their record is now 3-0 and they are averaging 32 points a game.  They play again next Thursday at Glen Este following the 7th grade game which begins at 4:30.

 

The Wilmington 8th Grade FB team suffered an 18-16 loss to Little Miami on 9/29.  It was another close game that came down to the last seconds of the game.  Scoring for the team with Touchdown runs were Jaevin Cumberland and Jerry Johns.  Both extra points were scored by Cumberland .   They return to action on Wednesday at Nagel Silver (Turpin).  This week the 8th grade game will be played first with a start time of 4:00.

The 8th grade got back on the winning track with a physical performance on both sides of the ball.  Wilmington scored on their second play of the game and never looked back. Nagel Silver did not score until late in the 4th qtr.  Defensively they were led by Garrett Scott who had an interception and caused a fumble on a strip which he also recovered.  Offensively John Heywood scored 4 rushing touchdowns and added an extra point.  Jaevin Cumberland had a touchdown run, and extra point run; he also completed an extra point pass to Andy Ealy.  Jerry Johns rushed for the other extra point on the day.
