FAVC Championships 5/11/10
The Lady Hurricane finished fourth at the FAVC Championship track meet. Second team all conference efforts by the 4x100 relay team of Seniors Chelsea Earley, Amy Ashurst and Hannah Houston, and sophomore Lauren Lewis, Senior Hali Hodge in Pole Vault, and Sophomore Hallie Jones in discus paced the team.
FAVC Prelims 5/11/10
The Wilmington girls are fourth following the first day of competition in the Fort Ancient Valley Conference Cardinal Division track and field championship being held at Walnut Hills High School.
The Lady Hurricane were led by Hallie Jones, who placed second in the discus and fourth in the shot put. Her 98-1 toss in the discus was 8 feet better than her previous personal best.
The girls were very competitive. We had some surprise performances especially in long jump and discus.
Lebanon Invitational 5/7/10
The girls on the Wilmington track team had a strong showing Friday night at the Lebanon Invitational. The ladies scored 54 points to finish 6th out of thirteen teams, just two points out of 4th. Ashley Burton had the highest finish, coming in 2nd in the 800 meter run with a career best time of 2:29.8. Others running their personal bests included Allison Vance in the 1600, 6:08, the 4x100 relay team of Earley, Ashurst, Houston, Lewis, 52.2, and Lewis in the 400, 1:00.1. The team’s showing at the meet is much improved over 2009 and is a great springboard into the upcoming league meet.
Mount Healthy Quad 5/4/10
The Wilmington girls finished 2nd at the Mount Healthy Quad. First place finishes came from the 4x800 team of Hodge, Vance, Houston and Burton with a time of 10:34.5, the 4x400 team of Hodge, Houston, Jones and Burton with a time of 4:28.5, Hodge in pole vault with a vault of 9'6, Vance in the 1600 with a time of 6:27, Burton in the 800 with a personal best 2:34.4, and Alden in the 3200 with a time of 14:32.
Wilmington High School Invitational 4/30/10
The Lady Hurricane finished 2nd Friday evening at the Wilmington High School Track Invitational at Beckett Track at Wilmington College. Wilmington earned first place finishes in the 4x800 relay, pole vault, 800 and 4x400 relay. Hali Hodge earned top marks as a member of the 4x800 with Ashley Burton, Allison Vance and Hannah Houston and as a member of the 4x400 relay team with Houston, Hallie Jones and Lauren Lewis. She also came in first in the pole vault with a vault of 9’0. Hodge also scored in the 300 hurdles with a third place finish. Ashley Burton took first in the 800 with a season best time of 2:35.4.
Second place finishes came from Burton in the 1600 with a time of 6:05.9, Mallory Alden in the 3200 with a season best time of 13.29.6, Jones in the shot put with a season best throw of 35’9.5 and Lewis in the 400 with a season best of 1:01.4.
Other to score in the meet include: Carrie Clark, 7th in the 100 hurdles, Lewis third in the 100 dash, Vance, 3rd in the 1600, Chelsea Earley, 5th in Long Jump with a personal best 14’4, Megan Sites, 8th in long jump, Vance 3rd in the 800 with a personal best 2:39.8, Molly Dixon 6th in the 3200, Katie Brewer 7th in the High Jump, Amber Tackett, 7th in the shot put and 8th in discus, and Jones in discus with a personal best throw of 88’9. The 4x100 relay team of Houston, Amy Ashurst, Ariel Anthony and Earley finished third as did the 4x200 team of Earley, Ashurst, Anthony and Rebecca Putman.
This was easily our best team performance of the year. Times came down all around which is what should be happening this time of year. The teams hard works is paying off heading into our last week of the regular season.
Meet records were broken in the 4x200 and 4x100 by Aiken. Aiken’s Gorden broke the meet 400 meter dash record of 1:01.3 previously held by Wilmington’s Desiree Jones. The new mark is 1:00.5. Aiken’s Whitehead broke the meet 200 meter mark with a time of 25.35. The previous record was held by Wilmington’s Keisha Cowin.
Wilmington Quad with Clinton-Massie, Little Miami and Washington Court House 4/27/10
Hali Hodge won four events, pole vault and the 300 hurdles individually and as a member of the 4x800 and 4x400 relay teams as the Lady Hurricane finished 2nd Tuesday at Alumni Field. Washington Court House won with 92 points followed by Wilmington, 66, Little Miami, 51, and Clinton-Massie with 47.
The Lady Cane had some of their best performances of the year in the 4x800, 10:40.94 1st place, 100 Dash, Lewis 13.02 2nd and Ashurst 13.17 3rd, Long Jump, Earley 13'11 2nd, 300 Hurdles 50.4 Hodge 1st, 800 Vance 2:41.7 and the 4x4 relay team of Hodge, Houston,Jones, and Lewis.
Bulldog Classic @ Milton-Union 4/24/10
The Wilmington Lady Hurricane Track team was led Saturday by Lauren Lewis, scoring in all four events she ran. Lewis finished 2nd in the 400 meter dash with a time of 63.81 and finished fourth in the 100 and 200 dash. Lewis anchored the 6th place 4x400 relay team including Hali Hodge, Hannah Houston and Hallie Jones. Hodge also scored in all four events she competed in finishing 2nd in the pole vault with a height of 9’6”, a season best time of 52.42 for 4th place in the 300 meter hurdles and 7th place as a member of the 4x800 team that finished with a season best time of 10:50.25. The 4x800 also included Ashley Burton, Allison Vance and Houston. Other scorers included the 4x100 relay team of Amy Ashurst, Chelsea Earley, Danielle Hodge and Houston finishing 5th and Hallie Jones with a 6th place finish in Shot Put with a throw of 30’9”.
We had a lot of girls really improve today. The competition at Milton-Union the last two years has been top notch and the girls pushed themselves to get their personal bests. Our 4x800 improved by 29 seconds just to mention one group. I think there are many good things to come this season for these girls.
Blanchester Invitational 4/15/10
Wilmington's Lady track team finished 4th at the Blanchester Invitational. There were several personal bests at the meet and many stepped up to fill spots that were left open by injury or sickness. Ashley Burton and Lauren Lewis finished first in the 800 and 400 respectively.
FAVC Cardinal Division Relays
The Lady Hurricane finished fourth at the Cardinal Division Relays on Thursday April 1. The shot put relay team of Hallie Jones, Heather Young and Amber Tackett notched Wilmington's lone first place finish. There were many solid performances and this meet should be a springboard to the second half of the season following spring break.
Tri Meet with Clinton-Massie and Miami Trace @ Massie 3/30/10
The Lady Cane track team won their tri meet with Clinton-Massie and Miami Trace 82 to 57 to 35. Event winners included Amy Ashurst in the 100 dash, Hali Hodge with a personal best pole vault of 10’. She also won the 300 hurdles. Lauren Lewis won the 400 and 200 dash. The 4x1, 4x2 and 4x4 relay teams all finished first with teams including: Ashurst, Lewis, Hodge, Chelsea Earley, Ariel Anthony, Emily Biechler, Megan Sites, Hannah Houston, Becca Putman and Hallie Jones. The next meet is Thursday at Kings for the FAVC relays.
Clinton-Massie Kickoff Classic 3/27/10
The Lady Hurricane finished second Saturday at the Clinton-Massie Kickoff classic. Event winners included Hali Hodge in pole vault at 9’6”, Lauren Lewis in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:03.9, Hallie Jones with a throw of 30’6” in the Shot Put, and the 4x400 relay team of Hali Hodge, Hallie Jones, Ashley Burton and Lauren Lewis with a time of 4:27.4. Second place finishes came from the 4x200 and 4x100 relay teams including Amy Ashurst, Hannah Huston, Chelsea Earley, Megan Sites, Arianna Goings, Lauren Lewis and Emily Biechler. Other point scorers included Hodge in the 300 hurdles, Earley in the 100 dash, Dani Hodge in the 100 hurdles, and Goings in the Discus. The next meet is Tuesday against Clinton-Massie and Miami Trace at Clinton-Massie. This is a great start to our season.

Saturday the girls indoor track team competed at The Ohio State University’s newly renovated French Field House. Megan Sites led the way finishing fourth in triple jump with a jump of 28’7 ¼” and 5th in long jump with a jump of 14’ 7 ¾”. Hali Hodge finished 5th in triple jump, hopping and skipping 28’ 5 ½”. Lauren Lewis finished 8th in the 200 dash with a time of 28.49 and Arianna goings was 19th with a time of 30.19 and 12th in high jump with a jump of 4’ 4”. Lewis was 10th in the 400 dash with a time of 1:04.96 and Hodge finished 13th with a time of 1:08.44. Others competing were Jessica Maus in the 60 meter hurdles and 800, Ariel Anthony in the 60 meter dash and 200 meter dash, Heather Young Shot Put, Carrie Clark in long jump and hurdles, and Darcie Mayberry in the 800 along with Rachel Arnold.

Jan 16 Cedarville: Lady Cane finish 18th, Lewis finishes 2nd in 400 Dash

Saturday January 16, several Lady Cane athletes competed at the Richey Indoor Early Bird meet at Cedarville University. Lauren Lewis finished second in the 400 dash with a time of 1:03 and Hali Hodge finished twelfth with a time of 1:08. Hodge also finished twelfth in the long jump with a jump of 12' 9". Megan Sites finished eleventh in the long jump with a jump of 13' 1" and finished thirtieth our of ninety four in the 200 with a time of 30.08. Others competing were Amy Ashurst in the 55 Dash along with Lewis, Jessica Maus and Carrie Clark in the 55 Hurdles. Clark also competed in the long jump. Darcie Mayberry had the longest run of the day competing in the 800 meter run.
