Wilmington City Schools are about providing an education that prepares future generations of leaders and workers to reach for the stars and live fulfilling, productive lives.
Wilmington is located in Clinton County in Southern Ohio east of Interstate 71 and about halfway between Columbus and Cincinnati. The district is the largest in the county and encompasses 166 square miles that include the City of Wilmington and a number of townships.
The district’s size and resources allow it to offer a wide range of academic and extracurricular opportunities. Wilmington High School offers 114 different courses and Advanced Placement courses are offered in Biology, Calculus, English Literature, European History, Government and Psychology.
The student body numbers 3,299 in Kindergarten through Grade 12, as of September, 2007. In all the district employs 206 teachers, and 65% have master's degrees. There are 109 support staff and 19 administrators.
The district’s graduation rate is 94%. Some 76% of graduates go on to college (the state average is 40%). The Class of 2007 earned over $1 million in scholarships. ACT scores rank above the state and national averages.
Residents demonstrated their commitment to education by passing a one percent income tax in 2002. As a result, the district has begun to implement enhancements … including all-day, every-day kindergarten and the elimination of student fees for extracurricular activities.
