Denver Place welcomes animal visitors

Betty Ross from the Glen Helen Raptor Center was a special guest in Ashley Johnson’s classroom at Denver Place Elementary School.

Mrs. Ross brought three birds to visit the class as a part of their animal science study – an American Kestrel Falcon, a Red Tailed Hawk and a Barred Owl.

The visit was made possible because a student in the class – Avery Greenlees – adopted a bald eagle from Glen Helen.

Early Kindergarten an Option for Some Students

Do you think your child might be ready to enter Kindergarten early?

In most cases, a student must be age 5 on or before September 30 to enter the Wilmington City Schools' Kindergarten program. However, students who show a high potential for academic success can be granted early admission into the program before meeting the age requirement, provided he or she meets certain criteria.

If you think your child might qualify, contact Director of Pupil Services Teresa Gillespie at 382-1641.

Community input sought
for school commute study

The Wilmington City Schools and the City of Wilmington are teaming up to compete for State grant dollars that have been set aside to improve sidewalks, walkway and trails leading to school building. Part of this process is compiling information from a community-wide survey, gathering thoughts and opinions regarding the safety and convenience of walking and bicycling to school.

Please complete the survey here.
