Matthew R. Spradlin is in his sixth year as Director of Bands at Wilmington High School after teaching three years in the Franklin City School District where he held a similar position. He is a 1995 Graduate of Wilmington High School and a 2001 graduate of Miami University (Oxford, Ohio) where he received his Bachelor of Music Degree with emphases in trumpet and wind conducting. He is currently perusing his Masters in Music Degree at Wright State University.
In 2004 he was awarded the “Excellence in Teaching” award from the Area Progress Council of Warren County. At Wilmington, Mr. Spradlin has incorporated Chamber Music as part of the daily curriculum, started a Middle School Jazz Band, and initiated an Artist-in-Residency program. Under his direction, the Wilmington High School Wind Ensemble was selected to perform at the 2009 Ohio Music Education Association Professional Conference.
Mr. Spradlin stays active in the Ohio Music Education Association as President - Elect of District 13 served on the large group music selection committee, and is an adjudicator for Solo & Ensemble Brass events. Mr. Spradlin holds professional memberships in the Ohio Music Education Association, Music Educators National Conference, and is an associate member of the College Band Directors National Association. Mr. Spradlin resides in Wilmington, Ohio with his wife Robin who is the Instrumental music teacher at Wilmington Middle School, daughter Kelsey, and dog Carmel.
