All About Mrs. Pettry

Hi! I'm Mrs. Pettry, a Title I Reading teacher at Holmes Elementary.  This year I will be working with Kindergarten, First and Fifth Grade students.  Title I is a federally funded program.  My job is to give children a "boost" to help them become successful readers and writers. I work in the classroom every day with the Kindergarten and First Grade teachers to give students an extra reading group, assistance in writing, some phonics help--whatever they need to become independent readers and writers.  I also work with Fifth Grade students on comprehension strategies, choosing independent reading material, and critical thinking skills.  

Title I regulations require that your children be served by highly qualified teachers.  I am a graduate of the University of Dayton with a bachelor's degree in education, and I hold a master's degree in reading from Wright State University. I love teaching reading, and I especially love helping children find books they will want to read at school and at home.
