A Message from the Supt. Regarding Graduation

Hi folks, Superintendent Tim Dettwiller here. The Wilmington City School District graduation ceremony will not use confetti cannons as part of the graduation ceremony. I want to thank the parents who brought this concern to us and for working with the district administration. We look forward to an outstanding graduation ceremony for our accomplished senior class of 2025! If you have any questions or concerns feel free to email me at tim.dettwiller@wilmington.k12.oh.us. Thank you and have a great day!

Today, several social media posts were made regarding the Wilmington High School graduation ceremony and its impact on students who have challenges dealing with the activities associated with the ceremony.
Wilmington City Schools is an inclusive school environment for all of our students. We work in collaboration with our parents to ensure the best experiences for all students. To that end, we have met in person with the parents who raised the concerns and have held multiple phone conversations to ensure their child enjoys our celebration. We have a plan in place to ensure their child has a wonderful graduation ceremony along with all the other amazing seniors.
I would ask the folks who are posting about Wilmington City Schools and the assumed lack of inclusiveness to allow us the time to work with our parents before you pass social media judgement.
Wilmington City Schools will graduate over 160 seniors this year. Those seniors made it to graduation due to their hard work, their supportive parents and due to the passion and dedication of their teachers and administrators who dedicated their lives to these students.
If you have any questions or concerns feel free to email me at tim.dettwiller@wilmington.k12.oh.us.
Thank you and have a great day!
