WCS Superintendent to Retire
After nearly four decades in public service, Wilmington City Schools Superintendent Tim Dettwiller has announced his retirement, effective July 31. He began serving as interim superintendent on Aug. 1, 2024, for the 2024–2025 school year and was later appointed as the district’s permanent superintendent. During his tenure, he worked closely with staff, students, and the community to strengthen the district’s focus and support continued progress.
“I believe Wilmington City Schools is well-positioned to welcome its next long-term leader,” said Dettwiller. “The district has made meaningful progress in improving student attendance, sharpening our focus on student outcomes, and developing a clear, community-driven vision for the future. I’m confident this strong foundation will allow the district to continue building momentum and creating new opportunities for students in the years ahead.”
The Board of Education extends its sincere appreciation for Mr. Dettwiller’s service to Wilmington City Schools and the community.
With this transition, the district is beginning the search for its next superintendent with assistance from the Southern Ohio Educational Service Center. The Board is seeking a qualified and visionary leader who will continue to support student success, strengthen community partnerships, and build on the district’s strong foundation.
The superintendent position will be posted from March 20 through April 2. Interested candidates should visit www.soesc.org to access the application materials and contact the Southern Ohio Educational Service Center Superintendent, Curt Bradshaw, with any questions.
The Wilmington City Schools Board of Education is committed to a thoughtful and comprehensive search process and looks forward to selecting a leader who will guide the district into the future.
