Apr 17, 2026
Dr. Kesia McCoy

The Board of Education for Wilmington City Schools voted today to appoint Dr. Kesia McCoy as the district’s next superintendent.

Dr. McCoy currently serves as superintendent of Fairfield Local Schools, a role she has held since 2022. Prior to that, she served as the district’s Director of Teaching and Learning. She is also a 1997 graduate of Wilmington City Schools.

She brings experience in strategic planning, community engagement and expanding learning opportunities to support student success.

She holds a bachelor of science in middle childhood education and a master’s in education from The Ohio State University, as well as a doctorate in educational leadership from Miami University. She also holds K-12 principal licensure and a K-12 gifted intervention specialist license.

“We are excited to welcome Dr. McCoy to Wilmington City Schools,” said Board of Education President Bill Davis. “Her experience and leadership will help us continue building on our progress and keep our focus on student success.”

Dr. McCoy said, “I am grateful for the opportunity to serve Wilmington City Schools and give back to a community that has influenced my path. I look forward to working with our staff, students, families and community to build strong relationships and expand opportunities for every student.”

She will officially begin her role on Aug. 1, following the retirement of Superintendent Tim Dettwiller.

The Board conducted a comprehensive search process in partnership with the Southern Ohio Educational Service Center, seeking a leader who will continue to strengthen student outcomes, support staff, and build strong connections with families and the community.
