Attendance

attend today achieve tomorrow

Students, did you know that chonic absence is missing just a couple of days per month - excused or unexcused - and can have a profound impact on your future success?  "By 6th grade, absenteeism is one of three signs that a student may drop out of high school." - attendanceworks.org handout

Being tardy to school or class, missing school for doctor or dentist appointments, staying home because you overslept and missed the bus - it may seem like a good excuse at the time, but it still adds up to missed hours/days of instruction, causing you to fall behind your peers. It's easier to keep up with classes and homework, than it is to catch up after an absence.

Making school a priority means:

  • Scheduling appointments outside of school hours whenever possible
  • Being organized so that you can get to class on time
  • Having back-up plans for getting to school
  • Doing your best to stay healthy -whether that means getting a flu vaccine, getting enough sleep on a regular basis, or eating healthier.

The habits that you create now will help you to be more successful in college and/or career. Schools aren't the only ones who track absences!

If you are struggling with attendance and need help, reach out to a teacher, school counselor, or administrator and we'll work with you to find solutions. For more information on the impact of chronic absence visit attendanceworks.org
